Fabrizio Giovanardi may have been crowned as the 2007 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship title winner at Thruxton, but the Italian wasn't the only person tasting success as a number of other drivers secured title glory in the different support categories.

In the Formula Renault championship Duncan Tappy did what he needed to do to wrap up the 2007 crown with a win and fastest lap in the opening race of the weekend – also picking up £10,000 and a test in a World Series by Renault car in the process.

Having sat in third place, Tappy took advantage of an incident between cousins Adam and Riki Christodoulou to secure the win he needed for the title and then followed it up with a 16th podium finish of the season in the final round of the year.

“I'm absolutely elated!” the 23-year-old said. “We've achieved what we set out to do this season but the main thing I'm feeling at the moment is relief. It's great to have a championship sealed in one of the most important single-seater categories in the world. It's been down to consistency and the highest achievement by far in my career.

“Following in the footsteps of former champions Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen is fantastic. We're looking at World Series by Renault for the next step or maybe Euro F3. I'm really looking forward to the World Series test and getting a taste for what I hope to be my 2008 season. I can't praise Fortec enough for everything they've done. It's been up and down as always but we've had more ups by far. It's an amazing feeling.”

In the Porsche Carrera Cup, the title fight came down to three men heading into the final race of the season, with James Sutton, Tim Harvey and Steven Kane all in with a chance of lifting the title.

As it was, Kane took the win by the slenderest of margins from Harvey in the race, but third place for Sutton was good enough to see him take the title in his rookie season – having switched from single-seaters at the start of the year.
