SEAT's BTCC team-leader
Jason Plato, who was also present at the Rockingham test to cast an eye over the touring car hopefuls, added that the prize on honour could be the perfect springboard for someone looking to launch their career.
"It's a huge opportunity," he said. "They will give their back teeth for that chance. I'd imagine it will come towards the end of the season which is when teams are looking for drivers for the following year. Whilst tests are important and do a huge amount, there is nothing like having a race as you have the chance to perform and shine and you don't know what might happen. The way touring cars works, with how the weight changes and with reverse grids, it isn't beyond the realms of doubt that they could come in and win a race. How amazing would that be for their career development?
"There is no better place to be than in a touring car environment as a paid of member of a big manufacturer team like SEAT Sport. It is the kind of thing I dreamed off when I was a kid but the chance wasn't there and it is worth mentioning SEAT's passion in finding young talent. They found Rob Huff and promoted him, likewise with James Pickford,
Mat Jackson and now Jonathan Adam. It's important for SEAT to participate in this way and to give a bit back to the sport as the new drivers of the future are those we see today."
