John George has confirmed that he will return to the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship for the 2008 season.
George, the original pioneer of alternative fuels in the BTCC, returned to the grid last season after two years away and secured four top ten finishes over the course of the campaign – eventually finishing in a solid tenth place in the Independents' standings.
For the new season, George will once again continue to run in the ex-Team Halfords Honda Integra he used for his return to the series under the TH Motorsport Racing with JAG banner, and the 46-year-old businessman admitted he couldn't wait for the season to start.
"It was great to return to the BTCC in 2007," he said. "However I must admit the bar has been raised since my first campaign in 2004 and I have no doubt the bar will be raised even higher in 2008.
"Believe me, I cannot wait to sit behind the wheel again, the BTCC is the only place to be and I am looking forward to the 2008 season more than I can ever remember looking forward to a season before."
Trevor Humphrey, team principal for the TH Motorsport squad, added that 2007 had been a steep learning curve for the whole outfit but said he was confident of progress being mad during the year ahead.
"2007 was a steep learning curve for both the team and John, as everything only came together just before the media day," he said. "Having said that, the whole team gelled very quickly and John was able to put in some strong performances. We are expecting increased competitiveness in 2008 and have in fact set ourselves some high achievement targets."
