Adam Jones has confirmed his participation in the 2008 HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship after acquiring a SEAT Leon for the new season.
Jones, who finished fifth in the Independents' championship last season despite missing a number of rounds, will continue to run under the Team Aircool banner with further backing coming from Bodywork (Solihull).
GR Asia, who ran Jones' SEAT Toledo last season, will continue to run the car which will be entered into all ten events during the coming year.
"Last year we didn't manage to do all of the BTCC season because GR Asia had commitments with the WTCC, which was something we fully understood when we agreed to do it," Jones told
Crash.net during last weeks British GT launch at
Silverstone. "This year, we will have a SEAT Leon and will do all ten rounds and hopefully with the same team, the resources we have and the personnel around the car, we can do an even better job than last year – which went well considering we had no budget to go testing and do what some of the other teams did.
"We went to the first race and just got on with it, we did no testing all year and I think we surprised some people with how well we did. It is exciting to know we will have a more competitive car and will do all ten rounds, and we want to try and win something."
The team has yet to take delivery of the car from Spain, although it is due to arrive in time for the opening rounds of the season at
Brands Hatch at the end of the month.
While that will leave little time to prepare for the start of the campaign, Jones admitted that he was confident of building on his impressive part-season in 2007, with the experience of Paul Ridgeway's team in running the Leon being key to his chances for the year ahead.
