Mike and Andrew Jordan will make history this coming weekend as they prepare to become the first father and son team to compete in the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship.
The John Guest Racing pair head into the season opener at Brands Hatch hoping to build on solid recent testing form, with newcomer Andrew in particular having set some eye-catching lap-times during the big group tests at both Rockingham and
Brands Hatch.
The teenager will be making his BTCC debut in the opening rounds of the 50th anniversary season and admitted he couldn't wait for the weekend to come around.
"It would be fantastic to get into the top ten at Brands," he said. "It's important not to let my expectations run away with me and I don't want to get too ahead of myself. This is a learning year and I've got to build up. In what I've done so far I've shown that I can race quite well, but that's totally different to touring cars.
It's going to be quite a culture shock at the first race. Once the first race at Brands is out of the way and I've seen how it is, I think I'll be able to relax a bit. I just want to enjoy the whole experience."
Father Mike will be starting his third season in the BTCC but he admitted that he expects the coming campaign to be far from easy, with an already impressive field having got stronger over the winter.
"If we can match the overall performance level we had last year of qualifying just behind the works teams on occasion, that would be perfectly acceptable," he said. "Those guys have got proper budgets and they are doing a great job.
"At Brands last year six-tenths covered the first ten cars. This year I think you could easily have six-tenths covering 15 cars. I think there will be more quick cars right where we are now on the grid.
"If I'm still capable of qualifying in the top ten, I think Andrew will do that quite quickly. I think he'll out-qualify me and it wouldn't surprise me if he out-qualifies me at Brands. We'll help each other in qualifying, and he'll probably get more out of that than me."
