BTCC » Turner: Confidence is growing.

SEAT man hopeful of improved SEAT showing at Donington.

Darren Turner says he is hopeful that the SEAT Sport UK team will be able to improve on its previous form at Donington Park as the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship heads to the East Midlands circuit for the third round of the year.

Although Turner qualified on the front row of the grid last season and team-mate Jason Plato went on to secure two wins, the Donington circuit hasn't been the strongest for the SEAT team in the past but that could change this time around with the diesel-powered Leon expected to be a stronger package at the undulating venue.

Turner has already taken two podium finishes with the car so far this season and said he is hopeful that he can continue that kind of form next weekend, with team-mate Plato having already said that the team is prepared to gamble on set-up in an attempt to take a first win under diesel power.

"Last year we surprised ourselves in qualifying, because historically Donington hasn't been our strongest track and we ended up on the front row," Turner said. "Generally the races didn't go too bad either. The Leon's got a very good chassis, but last year we suffered at Donington with our relative lack of straight line speed, especially on the long uphill sections.

"Now, with the diesel engine, we hope that Donington has gone from being a circuit we were not the most competitive on to a track where we can be truly competitive. Confidence in the team is growing as we understand how to get the most out of the new car.

"The TDi engine hasn't missed a beat all season and is doing everything we expected from it, and we are working hard to try and get the engine to work well with the chassis."
