Team RAC driver Stephen Jelley has warmed up for the third round of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship round at Donington Park with a visit to Leicester Tigers to meet rugby stars Martin Corry, Geordan Murphy and Ben Kay.
Jelley, a lifelong Tigers fan, got the chance to meet the trio and their Tigers team-mates - who are currently fighting to defend their Guinness Premiership title – and was able to exchange sporting tips, advice and insights with the England and Leicester stalwarts.
"As a lifelong Leicester Tigers fan it was great to meet some of the players ahead of this Sunday," the former British F3 runner said. "The skills that the players possess are so impressive, with great hand to eye coordination and physical strength.
"These are skills and attributes also needed to be a top racing driver, so it was great to see how these are applied in a different sport. It was an enjoyable day and I'll be supporting Leicester in their race for the title."
Club captain Corry, in his eleventh season at Leicester Tigers, agreed with Jelley that it had been interesting to get a different perspective on sporting life and said he was only disappointed that a key fixture this weekend will prevent him from going along to cheer Jelley on at
Donington.
"It was fantastic to meet Stephen and take a closer look at the Team RAC car," he said. "It was very interesting to hear about the preparation and demands involved in being a racing driver.
"Unfortunately we're playing on Sunday so won't be able see him in action this weekend, but we all wish him the best of luck, and I'm sure fans going along are in for a cracking day of racing."
