At a circuit where the petrol-powered SEAT Leon has never been amongst the strongest cars, Adam Jones was left with work to do after qualifying in 13th place for the third rounds of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship at
Donington Park.
Jones went into the weekend looking to build on his fine podium finish in the final race of the weekend last time out at Rockingham and was also keen to close the gap to
Mat Jackson in the fight for the Independents' title.
However, the Team Aircool man was unable to break into the top ten during either practice session and then had to settle for a place on the seventh row of the grid after the all-important qualifying session – albeit one place ahead of his
BMW rival who also struggled for pace.
"We just lack pace around here," he said. "It's an aero circuit and that is our weakness with this car. We also have a 2007 engine and we know the 2008 one would be quicker so it's just a combination of things really.
"It'll be a battle in the pack and if it stays dry then I think we will end up battling with the same kind of people we have been around in qualifying. However, I'll be hoping for rain as it will make it more of a level playing field and put us in the fight a bit more."
