The Arkas Racing with Sunshine.co.uk faces a race against time to prepare for the next round of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship at
Thruxton following Erkut Kizilirmak's heavy shunt in the second race of the weekend at
Donington Park.
Having finished 16th in the opening race of the weekend at the wheel of his Astra Sport Hatch, Erkut was involved in a major shunt in the damp second race when he lost control of his car at the top of the Craner Curves.
Despite trying to regain control of the car, Erkut was little more than a passenger once the car touched the wet grass and he went head-on into the barriers, causing severe damage to his car and leaving the team with the job of building up the spare for the trip to the fastest circuit on the calendar.
"The chassis leg went back through the bulkhead," team manager Marvin Humphries said. "It took quite a bang and building up the spare car is the best option in the time available.
"Fortunately we'd strip the cars right down in between races anyway, but our spare is still in the old Vauxhall livery so needs a re-paint before we can really get stuck into it.
"In the time we have in between Donington and Thruxton it's going to be quite intensive and we'll be working throughout the weekend. But, provided we stick to our check list, we should have it completed Tuesday so we can drop the engine in Wednesday and then go and do the shakedown Thursday..."
