After a disappointing weekend at Donington Park,
BMW Dealer Team UK driver
Mat Jackson will hope to get his HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship campaign back on track this weekend as the series heads to Thruxton for the fourth round of the year.
Jackson went into the Donington weekend looking to try and jump ahead of Fabrizio Giovanardi in the championship standings, but instead was restricted to just three points on race day after struggling with the low grip surface at the East Midlands venue and rain showers that left the BMW teams on the back foot.
However, Jackson has run strongly at Thruxton in the past having won the final round of the 2007 campaign at the Hampshire venue and he said he was hopeful that he can return to winning ways this time around.
"Firstly we are all hoping for dry weather which makes a big difference to us," he said. "Although we had a disappointing weekend at
Donington, at least we are ballast free for qualifying and the first race, so I hope to maximise that opportunity and obviously it would be nice to take another win home with me from
Thruxton."
Team manager Chris Tee admitted that the BMW has undergone improvements since last season which should improve performance this coming weekend although like Jackson, he said the team would need conditions to be on its side.
"Mat claimed a win at Thruxton last year and we know we have a quicker and more consistent car than '07," he said. "Weather permitting, we need to qualify in the top four to give us a good chance in race one."
