BMW squad out to get campaign back on track at Thruxton.

Team RAC will look to get its HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship campaign back on track this weekend at the series heads to Thruxton for the fourth round of the year.

The BMW squad endured a difficult weekend last time out at Donington Park as all the teams running rear-wheel drive struggled with the low grip circuit – which was made worse after rain fell on race day.

It meant that the WSR-run outfit secured just three points on race day thanks to Turkington in race one, while team-mate Stephen Jelley saw his chances of adding points to his tally affected by an off in race one while dicing for fifth place.

Thruxton is however a circuit that holds happy memories for Team RAC after Turkington took the team's first win in 2006 and he will now hope to repeat that feat at the quickest circuit on the calendar.

"Donington was bitterly disappointing for me so I can't wait to get back behind the wheel – it's been a long two weeks!" he said. "This circuit has some good memories for me.

"I recorded Team RAC's first win here in 2006, and it's vitally important we perform well again this time out. The car should be very fast on the track so everyone is very optimistic of a successful weekend."

Team boss Dick Bennetts admitted that he felt the BMW 320si will have the pace to run at the front during the race weekend – as shown last season when Mat Jackson won the final race of the year – and said the focus was firmly on picking up valuable points in all three races.

"Thruxton is the fastest circuit on the calendar and a track that Team RAC has done well at in the past," he said. "Colin won here in 2006 so is proven on the circuit and the BMW has the pace to have us firmly at the front of the pack.

"Donington was disappointing overall, although it was great to see Colin qualify so well. We're determined to get back on line at Thruxton and give Team RAC fans something to shout about. It's important we pick up valuable points in all three races and that will be the aim."
