Adam Jones admitted he was happy enough with eleventh place on the grid for the latest rounds of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship following the best Saturday' he's had with the Team Aircool SEAT Leon.
At a circuit where he said he didn't feel the petrol-powered Leon would be at its best, the current Independents' points leader found the best part of two seconds between the opening practice session and qualifying and was fourth fastest amongst the Independents' ahead of the man he heads in the standings,
Mat Jackson.
"It would be nice to be a bit higher up but in terms of performance, it is the best Saturday that we have had when it comes to finding pace in the car," he said. "We haven't quite got the pace to match the guys right at the front, but there are half a dozen drivers there who we can match.
"The challenge is that I have quite a few BMWs lining up right behind me on the grid and I don't imagine that they will be behind me when we get to the first corner unless I can cause a road block!"
Going into race day, Jones said his focus would be on picking up more points for his championship challenge as he continues to live by the old adage that points win prizes.
"We are happy with what we have and feel we have a good race car," he said. "At the end of the day, championship points are what we need and we can't afford to have a DNF. So scoring points is what I'll be looking to do."
