Steven Kane admitted he was happy with a place inside the top ten after qualifying for the latest rounds of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship at
Croft.
Having struggled at both
Donington Park and
Thruxton in recent meetings, the Motorbase Performance man returned to the kind of form displaying in the opening two race meetings of the year to run eleventh in free practice one and then eighth in free practice two.
In qualifying, he saw his best lap hit by traffic but still managed to post the tenth quickest time, although the Northern Irishman was left to wonder how high up the grid he could have been starting Sunday's opening race.
“I would have liked to be higher but I'm delighted with the progress we have made since Thruxton as we really struggled there,” he said. “On my quick lap I came across Chris Stockton at Tower and lost a lot of time. I put my headlights on but couldn't get past him and then he clipped the tyres at the Complex. I hit them and bent the steering a bit and without that I think I could have been fifth or sixth.
“However I can't say I'm not happy after the way Thruxton went, the speed is in the car and in me and it just didn't come off for us today. We have done so many changes its difficult to predict how the racing will go, but I think we'll have a good car and hopefully I can make up some places off the line and go from there.”
Team-mate Rob Collard will start 14th in the sister car.
