Team Halfords driver Gordon Shedden has vowed to continue fighting hard during the second half of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship despite seeing his title chances hit by a difficult weekend at
Croft.
The Scot has been one of the quickest drivers during the season to date but headed to the North East circuit having taken just win from the opening twelve races after a campaign beset by bad luck including punctures while leading two of the three races at
Thruxton.
It appeared luck was going against Shedden again in qualifying when his Honda Civic failed the ride height test before one final flying lap saw him secure a place on the front row of the grid.
After the first race was red-flagged, Shedden took the lead of the restart when
Mat Jackson went off at Tower but then lost the lead himself when he ran wide at the Hairpin and dropped to third place where he finished when the race was then stopped.
Shedden held second when race two kicked off after battling ahead of former team-mate
Matt Neal before contact from the Vauxhall man saw him go off into the wall at Tower. Starting from the back for race three as a result, he battled through to sixth place at the finish but it was once again a case of what might have been'.
"Again it was a weekend that promised a lot and didn't deliver enough for us it isn't good enough," he said. "To qualify second was really good and got everyone going in the team, and we should have won the first race, but it was so wet, it was ridiculous. We needed flippers and paddles rather than wheels and tyres and I have to admit I was surprised they restarted it as you couldn't even commit to full throttle in a straight line.
