Adam Jones admits he was pleased with the result of a two-day test session for the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship regulars ahead of the resumption of the season at
Snetterton next month.
The Team Aircool man was able to complete his first serious testing at the wheel of his SEAT Leon, with the late completion of the deal to run the car this season meaning that his running so far has been restricted to actual race meetings.
Jones ended the opening day of the test at the Norfolk venue in ninth place with a time of 1min 13.210secs and he then improved that time by six-tenths of a second on day two, where he ended up fifth, which has left the current Independents' points leader in confident mood going into the second half of the year.
"We had two solid days of testing, although we kept running to a minimum to keep mileage off the car," he said. "We had our plans and we worked through them during the two days and it was good to be able to take advantage of some decent weather for the test. It was the first chance we have actually had to test because we got the car so late, so it was nice to be able to make the most of the opportunity.
"We know where we stand going into the race weekend and we put on a good showing despite the fact that Snetterton is a power circuit and that is somewhere where we are lacking with the Leon.
"It won't be easy, but hopefully we can improve our performance in qualifying and then our race pace will be as strong as normal, as that is something that has been consistently strong all year."
