Team Halfords driver Gordon Shedden is to swap his Honda Civic for something completely different in the coming weeks following the announcement that he will join the CR Scuderia team for the Spa 24 Hours.
Shedden, who currently lies seventh in the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship standings, will join Tim Mullen, Andrea Piccini and team owner Chris Niarchos for the annual round the clock event at the Belgian circuit – which will be the fifth round of the
FIA GT Championship season.
The Scottish driver has driven the GT2-spec
Ferrari 430 on a number of occasions and will now make his debut in the series in the biggest race on the calendar and he admitted he couldn't wait for the event to come round.
"This is a fantastic opportunity to join CR Scuderia for the most prestigious race of the FIA GT calendar," he said. "I'm really looking forward to competing in my first 24 hour race and to link up with Chris and Tim. I sat next to Chris as an instructor at his first track day and it's great to join up with him in a race environment and Tim's quality is known across the board. We should make a great team.
"What's really nice for me is that my BTCC race engineer, Eddie Hinckley, is one of the engineers at CRS so I will feel at home right away. I can't wait to get in the Ferrari and help the guys in their quest for championship points!"
