Fabrizio Giovanardi will look to extend his 34 point lead in the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship as the series heads to
Oulton Park this weekend for the seventh round of the year.
The Italian currently heads team-mate
Matt Neal in the championship standings after a strong season to date, and he will head to the Cheshire venue eager to repeat the kind of form that saw him secure a brace of podium finishes in the opening races of the weekend. However, the Vauxhall man will want to avoid the bad luck that saw him retire from race three twelve months ago.
Last time out at Snetterton, Giovanardi and the remainder of the field struggled to match the pace of the diesel-powered SEATs but the Italian said he wasn't sure the Leon TDi would be as strong around the sweeping Oulton Park venue as on the long-straights of
Snetterton.
The engine is important but not as much as at Snetterton last time out, he said. I think, and we'll see, that the SEAT will struggle a bit under braking as they have found it tough on driving circuits.
Oulton Park is my favourite circuit, so I am very excited to be there for the next race weekend. On paper, Oulton should be a better circuit for VX Racing than Snetterton, so I can't wait to see how we perform there. Thinking back to my performance last year, it would be good to see the podium as frequently in 2008, and I really hope to be able to complete all three races!
