Atlantic runner set to confirm PCM/US RaceTronics rumours?

As rumoured on Crash.net during this month's Champ Car finale, Frankie Muniz appears set to join Pacific Coast Motorsport's 'junior team', US RaceTronics, for next season's Champ Car Atlantic campaign.

Although he insists that he is still 'evaluating options for next year', the actor-turned-racer followed a weekend spent in PCM colours at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez by making his first test outing with US RaceTronics as the team kick-started its winter development programme at Buttonwillow Raceway. The Los Angeles native ran a full day, and improved his times throughout as he became increasingly comfortable with his new surroundings.

“The test went very well, it was an awesome experience," Muniz commented, "I learned so much, the car felt great, and we ran 200 miles without an issue. I got to run quite a lot of laps and felt very good about the car and where we were heading throughout the day. I to have been out of the car for a while now, so it's good to be back."

With Muniz promising to 'announce my plans for 2008 in the coming weeks', US RaceTronics was also able to give the already-confirmed Carl Skerlong some serious track time after a two-month hiatus since the series' last track action. The Seattle racer has spent his off-season enrolled at Western Washington University, but being away from the track did not appear to have a negative effect as he quickly got up to speed and, like Muniz, continued to improve with each session.

“It felt great to get back in the car before the new year, we had a good test and I cannot wait for 2008,” Skerlong said, “It's been a while since I've been in the car, but it felt real comfortable. It was a great session, we tried a lot of things that, hopefully, will be to our advantage for the races next year. I'm real excited.”
