If someone had said to me this time last year that in 2007 my home race would have been at
Brands Hatch in a DTM car I don’t think that I would have believed them. For the last two years my home race was at
Silverstone for GP2 in front of a crowd waiting to see the
Formula One race.
Now though I am in the main event driving for one of the world’s best car manufacturers, so things are pretty good! I know that a full house of fans will be packed in waiting to see me and the other drivers battle it out over the fiercely tight Indy circuit.
To compete in such a high profile series on British shores really means a lot to me and hopefully I can give the supporters plenty to cheer about. The average DTM race attendance in 2006 was over 83,000 and peaked last season at almost 150,000 at Hockenheim and it is amazing to think all of these people know my name and follow the races.
The DTM fans are some of the most enthusiastic and loyal in any world sport. The series is very welcoming to the fans too so it works both ways. You can get into the paddock, have a look around, get into the pit-lane so it really is worth while coming along at the weekend.
I have driven the Indy circuit several times and won on it in various series as I was moving through the different formula. It is always a tricky lap and despite being a short lap it still manages to get in lots of features. It is always a tightly packed grid on the Indy circuit and with DTM already being so close it will be even closer.
My aim must be to try and get the first points for the team. We have to be realistic after the way things have been going. In qualifying I want to aim to get into the third session. The further up the grid I start the more points I will be able to get but I am doing the best I can with the car I have.
