Schneider claims record win at Lausitz.

Bernd Schneider (Mercedes) leads Laurent Aiello and Mattias Ekstrom (both Audi)

Schneider claims record win at Lausitz.

Sunday, 8th June 2003

It was a hot affair for Bernd Schneider: in outside temperatures ranging as high as 34 degrees, the Mercedes-driver kept his mind clear at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz and won the fourth round of the DTM in a dominant way.

At the finish after 35 race laps, Schneider had a margin of 6.813 seconds over Opel-driver Peter Dumbreck. The two leading drivers had an advantage of more than 20 seconds over Mattias Ekström [Abt-Audi TT-R] and Timo Scheider [Opel Astra V8 Coupé].

After having lost the race cars of Laurent Aiello and Christian Abt in accidents on Friday, the two changed into the cars of Martin Tomczyk and Peter Terting. Only a few minutes after the race, team principal Hans-Jürgen Abt was already looking ahead in a confident way: ''Given our possibilities, here, we have achieved everything we could. Now, we are looking forward to our home race at the Norisring in Nuremberg in a fortnight. After Laurent's victory against Bernd Schneider last year, the Norisring is our favourite track anyway.''
