It was donuts at Adria for Mattias Ekström as the Audi driver took his first win in the DTM series this season.
After taking pole by the very narrowest of margins, the Audi pilot looked favourite for the entirity of the 47 lap race at the tight and twisty circuit.
"I'm very happy," said Ekström after taking his first victory since Zandvoort in 2002. "I made a good start, had a brilliant pitstop and a fantastic strategy from the Audi team."
Christijan Albers came home in second place after being allowed past by team-mate Jean Alesi to try to narrow the gap to Ekström.
"It was difficult," confessed Alesi. "I had no brakes after the first pitstop so with Christijan contesting the championship I let him through."
For Albers it was another solid effort, though he wasn't able to challenge for the lead at the end. "I think we got every place that we were able to achieve," he said. "It was a great race, but I was a bit slow on the first stint and then the second too."
Alesi took third, though he was closed down by the ever-impressive Gary Paffett, who had led the race before the first pitstop, at the end of the race.
For Ekström it's now time to celebrate. "If I was Italian I'd be worried," said the ecstatic young star. "We will be turning the country upside down tonight!"
