Formula 1 refugee Christijan Albers has been confirmed as Audi's final DTM driver for the 2008 campaign, set to get into gear at Hockenheim next weekend.

Indeed, the deal marks a return to the leading pan-European tin-top series for the Dutchman, who competed in the championship from 2001 to 2004 for Audi's arch-rival Mercedes – finishing inside the top three in the title chase in the latter two years and triumphing more times than any other driver in 2002 en route to the runner-up spot in the final standings.

Albers will line up at Audi Team Futurecom-TME alongside DTM rookie Katherine Legge during the forthcoming season, the pairing each behind the wheel of a 2007-spec Audi A4. The squad is clearly enthusiastic about the 28-year-old former German F3 Champion's arrival.

“Christijan is a strong, ambitious character,” a team spokesman commented, “who will surely advance the whole team with his experience. Team Futurecom-TME is happy to have such a promising driver combination for the new season.”
