Paffett eager to return to happy hunting ground.

Thursday, 17th April 2008

Paffett, di Resta and Green all have good form around challenging north German track.

Gary Paffett may admit that a repeat of his Oschersleben successes from 2005 and 2007 is unlikely as the DTM arrives at the north German circuit for round two of the 2008 campaign this weekend, but that does not mean he is not aiming for a strong result.

McLaren-Mercedes' Formula 1 test driver – who claimed the DTM crown for the three-pointed star back in 2005 – led fellow Brit Paul di Resta home in a one-two demonstration at Oschersleben this time last year, the first-ever series victory for a year-old car, with di Resta's performance doubly impressive given he was behind the wheel of a 2005-spec C-Class. Paffett already opened his 2008 points-scoring account at Hockenheim last weekend, as the highest-finishing driver in non 2008-spec machinery.

“I want to maintain the momentum following my seventh place in Hockenheim,” the 27-year-old asserted, “and I aim to score points again. It will be very difficult to finish at the top like last year, but I will try.”

“My fastest race lap in Hockenheim demonstrated that our speed is better than the result showed,” added di Resta, who was deprived of a podium finish in the season curtain-raiser after encountering a clutch problem during his second pit-stop. “I have put the disappointment behind me, though, and want to push hard this coming weekend.”

Di Resta's misfortune left Jamie Green as the highest-placed of the DTM's six-strong 2008 Brit-pack at the chequered flag. The former F3 Euroseries Champion was a front row-starter at Oschersleben in 2006 and rostrum finisher in both 2005 and 2006, and has fond memories of the circuit.

“I like the Oschersleben track and I set the lap record there last year,” the 25-year-old enthused, “but you don't get points for that. I would prefer to end up on the podium this time.”
