"Then I was caught in a sandwich with Mattias behind me and wanted to save my brakes, but they overheated somewhat, and so did I, because I developed a cramp. I probably didn't drink enough, and these factors worked against me in the race. My lap times deteriorated and I lost some ground, but the result is still good for the team as we added a bit to our tally again."

In the early phases of the race, all four of the newest A4 DTMs were circling the Norisring together, but Martin Tomczyk, who had made a good start, eventually lost positions as his accelerator pedal repeatedly got stuck. Last year's models, which were the heaviest vehicles in the entire field in Nuremberg, had little chance of scoring points although, after a disappointing qualifying, Markus Winkelhock drove a good race to make up the positions between 17th on the grid and eleventh in the race, immediately ahead of the similarly-equipped Oliver Jarvis, Mike Rockenfeller – who was moved to the rear of the grid as the result of a team error – and Alexandre Prémat, who had clutch problems that affected his pit-stop.
