Mattias Ekstrom is back up to second in the DTM standings after a resounding victory at Zandvoort, round six of the season.

The Swede's first victory of the year, the reigning champion dominated from start to finish, despite having to fend off a charge from team-mate Timo Scheider in the final few laps.

Jumping up to second place in the overall standings, five points behind Scheider, Ekstrom was delighted to record his third career victory around the Dutch circuit and haul himself back into title contention.

"That was great. It was my third victory on this circuit. And it was one of the races we really had to win. It's good to be among the front of the field halfway through the championship. As the runner-up in the standings I'm now five points behind the front runner and am looking forward to the next race already."

Ekstrom's win proved to be the icing on the cake for the Audi team, who dominated the event with a 1-2-3-4 finish, the Swede leading Scheider, Tom Kristensen and Martin Tomczyk. The latest triumph for the new A4 saloon, Abt Sportsline director Hand-Jurgen Abt was ‘overwhelmed' by the result.

"We're overwhelmed. Like last year, Audi captured the top four positions. My boys did a superb job and didn't make even the slightest mistake. We moved up in the championship and are looking forward to the next race."
