Sunday, 10th August 2008

Paul di Resta admits his aim at Brands Hatch will be the same as ever – to try and secure victory.

Paul di Resta admits that his attitude heading into his home round of the DTM will remain the same as it is at any other race during the year as he seeks to strengthen his championship challenge.

The AMG Mercedes man, who took his maiden victory in the series earlier this year at the Lausitzring, currently lies fourth in the points standings after seven races but is just seven points behind current leader Timo Scheider going into his home race.

di Resta will be one of six British drivers lining up on the grid at Brands Hatch hoping to fight for victory, while the former F3 racer will also look to continue a run of form that has seen him score points in every race this year bar the season opener.

However, while he admits that competing on home soil will provide a boost, di Resta said that it didn't increase his determination to succeed which remains the same as at any other circuit on the calendar.

“I suppose it does provide a boost,” he told Crash.net Radio. “[However] at the end of the day, I'm no more determined than I am at any other race.

“I have to do the same job eleven times in a year and I am a great believer that you have to go to every race with the same attitude. Although it is nice to be at home and be in front of the British fans, I have the same attitude as ever and that is to win the race. I hope we can be there and be fast and put on a good show. Hopefully we can score as many points as possible.”

di Resta added that he was hopeful that Brands Hatch will draw in a large crowd to cheer on the British contingent, with the fact that Lewis Hamilton will perform demonstration laps in his McLaren Mercedes also likely to bring people through the gate.

“I'm sure each year we go [to Britain], it will get better and hopefully this year will be good,” he said. “Lewis Hamilton is doing the demonstration which will bring some more people in and if people do come along, they will see what a good weekend it is. Hopefully the weather will be good for spectators as it can put a dampener on things when it isn't so great. But I'm sure anyone who comes along will enjoy it.
