DTM rookie Maro Engel speaks exclusively to Crash.net Radios Rob Wilkins.

Maro Engel will return to British soil later this month when the DTM heads to Brands Hatch for the eighth round of the year.

Ahead of that event, Crash.net Radio took the chance to speak to the former British F3 racer during a Mobil 1 event at Brooklands about his debut season to date...


Crash.net:
How are you finding your first year in the DTM?

Maro Engel:
It's an amazing championship, especially for me being German – it's something really special. I have Ralf Schumacher as my team-mate and going back six months, I wouldn't have dreamt of that. It's a special thing for me to be a works driver with Mercedes-Benz.

Crash.net:
How much of a transition has it been going from F3?

Maro Engel:
There is definitely a transition and there are a lot of things to get used to. People talk about the roof over your head, but I would say it is more the vision, and having a bigger and heavier car around you. There is a special technique and I am still learning it.

Crash.net:
Are you looking forward to returning to a circuit you know pretty well?

Maro Engel:
Absolutely. It is great to come back to the UK where I spent two years racing in British F3. I have good memories of the UK and good memories of Brands Hatch where I held the lap record for a year. I'm looking forward to it and it should be a good weekend for us.

Crash.net:
Will it be an advantage?

Maro Engel:
It won't be a disadvantage. We'll have to see how we get on on the Friday and if we work through our programme and get the testing done. Then we can draw some conclusions about what is possible, but it isn't like some circuits which I have to learn.

Crash.net:
At the Nurburgring you qualified well. Was it disappointing not to break your points duck?
