KIMI RAIKKONEN has the provisional pole for the Monaco Grand Prix in Monte Carlo, with a lap of 1min 13.644secs. He was the last driver to qualify Saturday afternoon.
FERNANDO ALONSO was second fastest, followed by MARK WEBBER in third, and GIANCARLO FISICHELLA in fourth position.
Fifth fastest was JUAN PABLO MONTOYA. However, all of JPM's qualifying times were taken away by the
FIA stewards for causing the crash in Saturday morning practice. Their decision was taken after video review of the crash involving DAVID COULTHARD, JACQUES VILLENEUVE and the unlucky RALF SCHUMACHER. It was determined that Montoya unnecessarily slowed going uphill at Massenet in a fast sector, just after passing
Ralf Schumacher as he exited the pits. This started a chain reaction - Schumacher slowed, Coulthard had to pull out as Villeneuve was coming up behind. JV rear-ended Coulthard, who then spun into Schumacher, completely blocking the track and causing the quarter-hour Red Flag. No one was hurt. The Force wasn't with Coulthard despite his Star Wars livery, and Schumacher's bad luck wasn't over for the day.
NICK HEIDFELD now has fifth position for Saturday qualifying and JPM moves to the back.
RUBENS BARRICHELLO was the fastest
Bridgestone driver, in tenth place, just ahead of his team-mate, MICHAEL SCHUMACHER, who is still not having a good season.
