Press Snoop: Raikkonen on pole, JPM penalised.

Sunday, 22nd May 2005

KIMI RAIKKONEN has the provisional pole for the Monaco Grand Prix in Monte Carlo, with a lap of 1min 13.644secs. He was the last driver to qualify Saturday afternoon.

In the Saturday GP2 race, ADAM CARROLL won the race after starting third, nudging GIMMI BRUNI by 0.6 seconds. Close on his heels was NICO ROSBERG, son of KEKE ROSBERG. American Red Bull development driver, SCOTT SPEED came in fourth after starting fifth. Points leader HEIKKI KOVALAINEN finished fifth. NIKI LAUDA's son, MATHIAS, came in sixth, CAN ARTAM seventh and SERGIO HERNANDEZ was the last points getter in eighth place. Another second generation driver with a F1 father was NELSON PIQUET Jr, who finished eleventh in the 24-car field.

BCN Competicion team-mates did not run the race. ERNESTO VISO was Disqualified and HIROKI YOSHIMOTO did not start.

Kovalainen had a jammed left front lug nut during a mandatory pit-stop, which kept the crew from changing that tyre. They gave him a new right front tyre and off he went, charging to make up the nearly 60 seconds he lost. His two bonus points for pole position and fastest race lap of 1min 23.864secs kept him ahead of Bruni in the points, 28 to 26. Speed is third overall with 25 points, and Carroll fourth with 23 points.
