Press Snoop: AGP - Pt. 2 - F1, V8's and Historics.

Wednesday, 29th March 2006

Albert Park is commemorating the first Australian GP held there in 1956, fifty years ago...

The V8's are starting to set up in the Support Paddock. Many of the teams are busy at shops set up in Melbourne so they could meet the move-in deadline for Albert Park. After last weekend's Clips 500 in Adelaide, an exciting crash fest, more than a few teams are thrashing to repair cars or prepare spare cars, backup cars, cars from another series, or loaner cars. Some estimate the damage was more than a million Australian dollars.

The V8 race this weekend at AGP is not for Championship points, so some consider it a long, very public test. For others, it's purely for bragging rights or it's the Seen Scene.

The Clips 500 race was for points, and JAMIE WHINCUP drove his Triple Eight Ford Falcon to his first ever V8 victory on Sunday.

In other F1 news, Monza the race circuit is safe for now as a F1 Grand Prix venue, but the Monza round of the European Lite Mans Series in September - the Monza 1000 - is off. That race has to find a new venue, no easy task this late in the season, especially for an endurance race.
