Press Snoop: Schumacher wins race of attrition.

Monday, 3rd July 2006

Polesitter MICHAEL SCHUMACHER won his fourth consecutive US Grand Prix at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, making it his fifth and a record-breaking victory for any driver at The Brickyard.

Speed's fledgling team earned its first point Sunday with LIUZZI, who finished in the last points paying position. That point and the one constructor point was happy-making for team co-owner GERHARD BERGER, the former F1 driver. And Speed was genuinely happy for his team-mate, congratulating Liuzzi after his jubilant team were through tossing him in the air.

JEFF GORDON has won four NASCAR Nextel Cup races at IMS - the Brickyard 400 - and said during his SPEED TV booth stint that, if Michael Schumacher won again Sunday for his fifth F1 victory at the Brickyard, he [Gordon] would have to go win another BY400 to play catch-up.

PS. There were two USGP drivers who have run the IMS course in both directions. I forgot that JACQUES VILLENEUVE won the Indy 500 in 1995.
