To no-one's surprise, the
FIA announced Wednesday that
Bridgestone has been designated the sole official tyre supplier to the 2008, 2009 and 2010 Formula One world championships.
Bridgestone will also be the only tyre supplier in the 2007
F1 season, as Michelin has already announced its withdrawal. Michelin did not agree with the FIA F1 plan to have a single tyre supplier, as it 'went against the spirit of competition in
Formula One'.
Rocketsports Racing has sidelined NICKY PASTORELLI as driver of the #8 Bavaria City Racing entry due to "contractual difficulties due to default from one of his sponsors." Owner PAUL GENTILOZZI, who is also a co-owner of the Champ Car World Series, said Pastorelli "is working hard to remedy the situation and we hope to have him back in the he future once the problem is solved".
This means one less car in the field for this weekend's Molson Grand Prix of Toronto street race in Toronto, which could mean a 17-car line-up. Gentilozzi said there "just not enough time to find an adequate substitute to drive the #8 car".
Rocketsport's other driver, TONIS KASEMETS, will race by himself in the #18 Flexovite Abrasives car. This will be his first CCWS street course race, but Kasemets ran Toronto last year in the
Toyota Atlantic series, finishing eighth. Kasemets signed on for six races this season, and this is his third race.
Pastorelli joined the team for the Houston round, replacing ANTONIO PIZZONIA, who started the season with Rocketsports, but was dropped for sponsorship issues.
