Press Snoop: JPM returns to Ganassi - in NASCAR!

JUAN PABLO MONTOYA will leave Formula One at the end of this season to race NASCAR Nextel Cup with Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, replacing the departing CASEY MEARS, next year.

Montoya is no stranger to Ganassi, having successfully raced with CHIP GANASSI in CART, winning the 1993 CART Championship as a rookie, the youngest champion in CART history. His CART career includes 18 races, and 26 poles. In 2000, JPM ran with Ganassi again in CART and also ran, and won, the Indianapolis 500 as a rookie.

In 2001, JPM went to Formula One, racing with Williams for four years, before moving to McLaren in 2005. He has seven F1 victories and eleven pole positions. His best overall finish was third in the points in 2002. Currently, he is sixth in the standings.

Mears is fifteenth in the NASCAR Chase to the Cup, as is Ganassi in the owners' points for that car. Dodge is second of three marques in the manufacturers' standings, with five victories. McLaren is third in the Formula One constructors' championship, out of eleven teams.
