ROBERT KUBICA/BMW-Sauber was the fastest Formula One driver Friday at Magny Cours for the first day of F1 French Grand Prix practice. His fastest time was posted in the morning ? 1m 16.794s

Ganassi mentioned that Montoya had Mobil sponsorship with McLaren and his Cup car will be sponsored by Texaco/Havoline, which is owned by Chevron. Duelling barrels.

Other topics discussed including Midland's Kolles being coy about whether or not his team would be sold. He said: "Wait and see. It is very important that the team moves forward and that the decision that has to be made is related to the future of the team."

Formula One qualifying is Saturday.
