Of course, with
Anthony Davidson possibly on course to secure a race seat with
Super Aguri next season, there may well be a shortage of experienced test drivers for hire in 2007. Moreover, with the prospect of perhaps as little as ten days' testing a season possibly being permitted in the event of turning the grand prix Friday programme into a test day, the premium will be even more so on experienced drivers such as Marc Gene and Ricardo Zonta as expending valuable miles assessing young and inexperienced talent may be a luxury teams will find themselves able to do without. It will certainly be fascinating to see how this aspect of the business unfolds.
Finally, I have to say that it seems to be a huge disappointment that
Mark Webber and the
Williams team came to a parting of the ways. I'd always had the pleasant Australian down as a non-nonsense, archetypal Williams driver but, somehow, circumstances conspired to ensure that their alliance never quite gelled as they'd both hoped.
I'm not quite sure I share Mark's optimism as to what his new berth at
Red Bull might be capable of delivering, but, hey, don't listen to me. I was doubtful whether Jenson and
Honda would ever get it all together, so what do I know?
