Its only right that he came second....Joe Calzaghe is undisputed middle-weight champion of the world and a true champ. At least Zara Philips' time is over. British sport needs to recognise its champions as regretably, there aren't too many out there.
Lewis Hamilton has had a great year and he will add this trophy to his collection one day when he takes the ultimate prize.

Totally agree with you there. If he'd have won it that might have been a different matter but nobody should win a prestigious award like this by coming second, no matter how good your rookie year was. For the record i voted for Calzaghe too. Plenty of years left for Lewis to win, probably more than once as well ;)
Lewis Hamilton said he was the greatest racer of all time!!!
Why does the BBC not recognize the greatest ever racer of all time Lewser Hamilton!!!
I guess maybe because he has fled to Switzerland.

Rajiv, you must be the dumbest poster ever. All you post is hate for Hamilton. Work on moving out of your parents house before your next post.

If anybody watched James Toseland provide a masterclass in how to race a motorbike this year, they must be like me,wondering why Lewis Hamilton came second and James only got to fourth. It maybe because James is not prone to arrogance and blowing his own trumpet.

@F1 racer No not really, only idiots like George who for some reason can not, and will not let people express their opinions with out slagging them off.
What a little ******

@Whatever: Every one of these drivers have an amazing talent that you nor I will ever come close to. Stop bitching about them because you're a stupid fanboy. That's great that you have your favorite drivers, but don't bitch about other drivers because you read some nonsense on the internet. If you can't be unbiased then shut up. No of us know what these drivers say. We read stuff on the web and then bitch about it. That's not fair to judge them on what you read on the internet. We don't know what's true or false about them.

@George Personally, I think you talk a load of ********, everybody has the right to express their opinions, obviously you feel agrieved when somebody goes against your thoughts. As regarding reading stuff on the web, I also watch television where drivers are interviewed, therefor we have a pretty good idea of what is going on. I suggest that you go back into your little hole and turn off the lights. You appear to be clueless too reality. On that note I am sure you will find sanctury with the children programs shown on early weekday mornings. Leave the real sport for grown ups.

Confidence and Arrogance is not the same thing. If a driver says that he wants to be the best ever, its not arrogance. When you raise your children do you instill becoming 3rd best in the world to them or do you tell them to try to be the best? The majority of you Lewis Haters would be perfectly ok with what you read that he says if the statements came from another driver. Kimi says he expects more titles and no one says anything. If Lewis says something like that, you all bitch about how arrogant he is. These guys don't compete because to see who can suck the most.

If you don't get it already, I can't help you. Please stop talking about this and get back to the topic instead of your Hamilton bashing. The topic is about Lewis losing some dumb contest in the UK.
My opinion is that Paula Radcliffe should have won this because she had a baby a few months ago and still smoked the competition. Her sport is the most physically demanding of anyone on that list. I imagine that this is a popularity contest because a 2nd place contestant is present on the list. Joe Calzaghe, must be known only in the UK. How did he win this?

Lewis should not be concerned. F1 fans outnumber boxing fans but are likely to be doing something far more interesting than voting on the telly.
Pay to vote - who cares?
I suggest F1 fans do not fit the viewer profile of Big Brother, Celeb GMOOH, or Ballroom dancing type of progs - SPOTY is just one of the foregoing.
BTW, did anyone watch it? I was in Cologne so missed it.

Well George, for one minute I thought you were attempting to threaten me, I accept your apoligies. As regarding Paula, I can not agree with you anymore, she is a star and has done so much for the community. This I know and can state as a fact, why? because she lives in my area, she went to our local schools and is well respected as a person and a sports person. I just wish that people did not follow the media and get swhipped into a frenzy over nobody special. I well always bash Hamilton because he does not a show his real identity. Only what RD has made him into. His looks, appearance, his speech, its not real. Look at the past McLaren drivers. I am glad he did not win on both accounts.

@Whatever, you can't judge him on what your read about in the press. This stuff is simply designed so that we can click links and read about it. It generates ***. For instance. We should hate Alonso if we believe what we read, he appears to be a big baby demanding #1 status and always whinging. But you know what, it may not be so black and white. We don't know the true story. I never heard Alonso say that he wants his teammates to back down to him. I read it all the time. I've fallen into the trap by bashing him and he doesn't deserve it until I actually see him behaving the way the press describes him. Alonso and Hamilton both appear to be class acts when you see video of them.

When you read about them in the press, they appear to be whinging babies. I now only believe what I see and not what I read. If they only printed topics that were not controversial they would not make any money, so a good portion of what we read is absolute rubbish. Hell, look at spanish press. They are the worst at this. Hell, I wish I had my **** together at 21yrs old as well as Hamilton and Alonso. These guys are confident not arrogant as F1 Racer says.

It is pleasing that Calazghe has finally got some recognition from the wider British public. I do believe that Lewis Hamilton will win Sports Personality of the Year in the future. But I believe that Calazghe was more deserving for it this year as we are talking about a man who has been a World CHampion for 10 years in Boxing and has only Joe Louis and Darius Michaelski ahead of him in terms of successful title defences made. ahead in terms of thre which in any sport regardless is an amazing acheievement. So he deserves it.
