Howett: Toyota exist only to win.

Howett: Toyota exist only to win.

John Howett has insisted there is no pressure on Toyota's Formula 1 team to turn around its fortunes within the sport from the company's Japanese base, but he did acknowledge that in order to re-establish its credibility the squad needs to start winning – and soon.

There are two John Howett sentences which attracted my attention in this feature viz:
"We have to do better than we did in 2007" and: "A lot of manufactureres remained in F1 when Ferrari where dominant for eight years".
Ferrari where dominant for eight years after 21 years in limbo. Then they changed their staff and obtained the services of Messrs. Brawn and Schumacher and things changed. They still had to wait another two years though, as Mika Hakenen and McL were still beating them.
If Toyota does not do much better than they did in 2007, in which year they were overlapped in most races they should pack up. Or they could try to get the services of MS to help them develop a winner.

I must say, If Toyota don't perform well in 08 I hope they pack up and leave. They talk big talk about their burning desire to win and sporting spirit. The fact is they along with honda and red bull are there only to promote and sell a product. They come in to the sport with these bull**** preconceptions that they can produce a winning car in about 3-5 years of competing. They all have made fools of themselves but are lothe to admit it. They thought they could bring their financial might to bare and dominate the sport based on this. Having no regard or respect for the true F1 competetors. If they had they would have looked at the history of said competitors and learned how to do it.

As everybody knows, when the manufacturers decide that F1 isn't a good marketing tool, then they will leave. This was always the risk Bernie and Max were willing to take. That is why the independents are so important to the longterm future of the sport and why "customer" teams should not be allowed to compete. Imagine if Honda decide to pull out? Straightaway, you will lose 4 cars from the grid.

frank g. Timo Glock is the GP2 champion. if i recall Hamilton and Rosberg were also GP2 champions. Trulli is a solid driver, lacking slightly in out right pace but good enough for a midfield team.

I believe toyota need to drop their japanese way of doing things and adopt a new approach

Which come up to my suggestion that they should endevour to get the services of Michael Schumacher (MS) as Team Manager, Tactics & Strategy Adviser, Tester & Developer with a free hand to test and compare all designs against his experience with other cars and to scrap all rubbish.
Two, good, race winning drivers are also required. Like his mate Fissi, Trulli has not really achieved much in his long years in F1.
