Trulli: Changes haven't got rid of cheats.

Trulli: Changes haven't got rid of cheats.

Cheating may still be a part of Formula 1 despite the threat from FIA President Max Mosley that any team caught in future faces expulsion from the sport – that is the fear of Toyota ace Jarno Trulli following the opening tests of 2008.

 1 people disagree.

Jarno, is someone cheating or not?
If you are suspecting that some teams have already been using illegal forms of launch and traction control in pre-season testing, and as you said Toyota have been recieving conflicting info, then someone IS CHEATING.
Yes, the new SECU has been developed by McLaren Electronics and Microsoft, and was chosen by the FIA after all the teams voted for it.
So, Jarno, what do you suggest?
Certainly more arduous testing of each suspected car by the FIA.
If you know who these teams are, then kindly indicate them to the FIA.
Named them and shamed them, otherwise what you are alleging is nonesense.

its obvious who's cheating, McLaren. They've found a way to sneak things like launch control into the ECU's of other teams and are remotely controlling it.

If the teams hav found a way to control traction without going through the ECU, is that cheating? Dont the new laws prohibit electronic traction control ... but what if its some sort of mechanical system?

It's amazing what the engineers can tell about other teams / cars from simple sound recordings even. A few years back they could tell which engines were the most powerful, & it was recordings that found Yamaha's BSB "Big Bang" firing order.

In theory, it would not be impossible to control the pressure in the gearbox without going through the ECU, to act as a form of traction control.

Without reading the (very complex) regulations thoroughly, it might not actually be illegal.

Over the years, teams have always looked for (and found) ways round the rules.

If anyone can remember, we had the same situation in 1994 with the Benneton team when michael Schumacher was racing for them, abs, active ride suspension and traction control were outlawed, and yet there was a suspicion that Benneton were using something illegal.
One of the early races Ayrton Senna crash out and instead of returning to the pits, he stayed where he was and watched and listend to the Benneton going past as he (Ayrton senna) suspected that Benneton were using something illegal!?
From what i have read in magazines and papers over the years, they were using something illegal but got away with it!
All what i know is that the Benneton team were using invisible computer prompts!

Teams push the rules in F1 all the time. The question is how far are some teams willing to take it after the scandal of last season. If teams push it too far it can be cheating, if they are careful then it may be accepted.

Hi chu Chu, of course Jarno does not read this foum, he's far removed from you, me and our world, whatever you wanted to mean by that.
If you can't read a little sarcasm in my post at his statements, then you should at least have sent in a worthwhile contribution.
If he knows who's cheating or bending the rules, as I said he should name them and shame them.

Maybe Mclaren will run the second brake pedal again like they did in the late '90s.

This form of cheating, if thats what it is, has been going on for years in F1. It is a part of the game, always has been and always will be. The cheating, as in copying and having information from another team is a different matter and should be stamped out. As for a team of engineers looking at the rules and developing something around those rules, well thats a different kettle of fish in my opinion....Until Toyota say this and that and the FIA check the claims I dont think they have much to go on, besides their own engineers are probably trying certain things out themselves...
