Heikki Kovalainen has been tipped to improve progressively as the season unfolds, with McLaren confident the young Finn will stand atop the Formula One rostrum before 2008 is out.
Of course he will any, any decent driver could win in a Mclaren.

But he is a seriously SERIOUSLY talented driver who should beat Lewis in my mind. He should have been leading the championship by now if it wasnt for bad luck. In 2008, he is the second best driver in the field. Will definietly win a race or 4.

I agree he should beat Lewis this year, I think that was the reason why Lewis was so upset at the end of the last race, he can see it too.

i think on raw pace Hamilton still has a couple of tenths on HK but like last year when he was behind Fisichella let's give it 5-6 races and we'll see the 'real' Kovalainen, it's a credit to him that he already manage to out qualify ron's golden boy and he will only get sgtronger, but my worry is will mclaren allow Hamilton to be beaten so easily as we're seeing, after all they did screw Alonso last year in the last few races.

He has out qualified Lewis Hamilton once guys....big deal! It will happen again.
HK was very disappointing in Malaysia, pace was slow and but for a damaged air gun, would have been comprehensively behind Lewis. That is a fact and if you saw the race it would be obvious.
He will win this year, and was robbed of second place in Aus by the SC, but realistically I don't see him as a better driver than his teammate.

Kiran: Please please do not put that LH in the same breath as Senna!!!!! it's just so wrong and misleading!!!!! I did say hamilton still has about 2 tenths on Kovalainen but if you look at last year when he was at Renault he did manage to overcome Fisichella by the 2nd half of the season when in the first few races he looked like a amateur, so if I was Hamilton I'd watch my back or even more likely, watch Heikki's rear wing ;)

That is not my intention Tom, I think your original comment makes a lot of sense. I will use the new edit function to amend my post.

Kovalainen 'will win' in 2008!!!
Big deal, you could get any current F1 driver to win a race in the 08 McClaren, even Sato!!

OK, so it's time to add some controversy! ha ha ha I think this is the "beginning of the end" for LH. HK will get progressively better and systematically beat the heck out of LH. HK does not have the massive ego and all the asociated problems that go along with it, as does LH. He will simply go out and get the job done in the style of Kimi R. LH will have a VERY dfficult time with the realization that he is not the next "racing God" among ordinary mortals and will struggle mightily, always asking how he let the Championship slip away yet again. I really like HK and believe he is earning his rewards in a much more respectable manner than LH, and wish all the luck!

I agree with you Bob I think Lewis is slowly loosing his grip, remember as I have sid he can only win from the front. adolph
Did you guys follow the whole weekend,i sure did.Lewis was faster than hk all the session but one,he was up by 7 second in the race before is first pitstop, you all know what happen. So that was the only reason hk beat lewis.I know a lot of people don't like lewis, and is looking for any hope that hk will beat lewis, but you guys know it won't happen over the full season, sure he will beat lewis sometimes, just has dc beat webber sometimes,it happens. But over the full year lewis will win.

I very much want to see Kovalainen race Hamilton hard, as it will be interesting to me to see how Lewis will react to it. Many drivers lose their composure when regularly challenged by a quick team-mate. I don't doubt Hamiltons ability in the car, but he's still new to F1, as is Kovalainen. This season will teach us far more about both drivers I think - about their temperment and composure.
I look forward to seeing them battling each other, and the consequences that follow from it.

hamilton cracked last year when alonso closed the points gap. if heikki proves to be competition for him, i agree that he will probably crack again. if so uncle ron may be regretting the 5 year contract. damon, heikki was faster than hamilton in the only session that mattered last week end. do you remember heiki beating schui a couple of years ago in the race of champions. schumi in a car he knew, heikki in a car he did not know!

Anyone in a current MaClaren car should win at least one GP in a season or else they shouldn't be there. Hekki is still getting to grips with the fact he is in a race winning machine and give him a few of more races he'll be on the top step. I predict he will win his first GP at the Belgium GP.

I expect that HK will be fighting for the championship at the end of the season. Just off down to Ladbrooks to put a fiver on.

All races last year were won by either a Ferrari or a Mclaren. Ferrari won 9 and McLaren won 8, out of 17 races. So what is the big deal, or the big news, and where is the revelation that Whitemarsh came out with when he said that Kovy "will win in 2008"? The news would be if he will not win some races I would think. By making such a statement Whitemarsh is only demeaning his driver rather than glorifying him. After all Lewis as a rookie won 4 races last year in the McLaren, so why could'nt Heiki? And where is the big surprise going to be if Heiki wins races in 2008, unless he wins the WDC?
If I were driving a Mclaren or a Ferrari, I am sure I would beat Lewis also. My Red Bull has such bad reliability problems, my true talent isn't able to be put on display yet. Hekki is one of the most liked guys on the field here in the paddock, but I don't think he is nearly as fast as Hamilton.
But watch out, next year, or so, I will be in a factory Ferrari and I will be winning races and possibly the championship.
BTW..even though I am young, we all think Alonso is the biggest baby in the field.

I think you guys are right, I think I've peaked too soon... at least if got a long contract to see me out... I could let Kovalainen's tyres down next time...

someone pretending to me? i dont need to let anyone's tyres down, i just wear my own down, to give the rest a chance.
