Ferrari back Massa: We have best drivers in world.

Sort Comments:

Ferrari: Massa future 'not under discussion'.

Luca di Montezemolo has spoken out to re-affirm Ferrari's faith in Felipe Massa – despite the Brazilian's error-strewn and distinctly underwhelming start to the 2008 campaign.

Massa - one of the top two drivers in the world? HAHA! I suppose it is April Fools day!! Nice one Luca!

Bet Alonso took this well

Mind it's not the first time that Ferrari have made comments like this and then done a u turn at the end of a season.

I think Massa will still be driving for Ferrari on 2009.... as a test driver! LOL! What do you expect from a guy who often lose control of his car even with traction control. ;)

Massa is too soft. He is the perfect number two on any team. I think what the article meant to say was that Massa is the best number two driver anyone could have. He always makes the other driver look good.

You may think you have the best two-driver team, only because Kimi is so good, he makes up for Massa's lacking. Alonso, will come in and then it will be a better two driver line-up. Sorry Tifosi, Macca has the best two driver line-up. Both are better than Massa and right in line with Kimi. I would like to see Hami, Kovi, Kimi & Zo in the same competitive cars racing each other. Throw in Heidfeld, Kubica, Nico and maybe even a Toyota. This year is looking good already, next year may be better!

Massa's position is not under discussion because, I guess, they've already decided he's going. There is a nice symmetry to Jean Todt completing his ease-out by replacing Moseley at the FIA, and Nicholas Todt buying up STR to run as a Ferrari customer, taking his start driver with him. That way, FM gets a race seat as well as fulfilling the inevitable test role for Ferrari. The only fly in the ointment here is the sudden possibilit that the FIA seat may come free a lot earlier than anyone at Maranello expected, leaving the door open for a concerted charge by a third party like JYS. (Draws veil over crystal ball, drifts away mysteriously....)

Robsy, you're right - Massa in a Torro Rosso seems ideal.

Alonso would probably only move to Ferrari when Kimi retires though. Alonso has that ruthless streak that Schumacher had. He only thinks of himself, and that's what makes him a winner. Ferrari would love this.

Thing is, can anyone imagine Kimi retiring when he's at the top? Alonso must be aching to get out of that Renault....

One may easily guess what happened behind scenes. Massa was told: Dude, from now on you drive for the team ONLY, no racing with Kimi, no extreme driving. And Massa replied: Yes, Sir, yes, master.
This is what I see behind Ferrari statement.

Ferrari wants to play only on Kimi instead of both!...Typical Schumi tactics???

If McLaren did the same last year, Hamilton or Alonso Could be a champion!...

Crystal Ball back out!

Kimi retires at the end of 08 - either as a two-times champion, or a champion who has peaked; either way he gives as his reason 'spending more time with my drinking buddies', only it sounds in the interview like 'spnd mumble tm mumble DRINK mumble".

Flippy Messup (thats for everyone fed up with Loser Hamilchoke comments) becomes number 1 driver. At Scuderia Todt. He has a new helmet design for 09 that resembles the head of a crash test dummy.

Alonso leaves Regie for Ferrari, alongside Vettel. Vettel embarasses him on track, and they have a huge falling out. Flavio can't take being dumped twice, and retires to count his money.

Call me Nostradamus

Robsy, ha ha ha. Agreed that Alonso would only go to Ferrari if he were guaranteed number one status. Not sure he'd accept Vettel who would have matured by then to be a challenge. Actually not sure if Vettel would go to Ferrari if he is only to be a number two driver.

As for the rest, what will be will be. EXCEPT that there is no way that JT should/could become FIA president. The holder of that position should have no material prior connections with any current team, whether F1 or any other series that the FIA rule over. Having said that, RD has said some very meaningful things today about his vision of the future of F1. See Autosport. All JT has said recently is on a spending cap.
