Aguri keeping the faith.

Aguri keeping the faith.

Cash-strapped minnows to soldier on in Spain.

A bit difficult for any potential investor to commit as without a firm concorde agreement for starters why waste the bucks on uncertainty. I think the whole issue has made any new players wary of the sport and only the wealthy Indian entrepeneres are willing to have a gamble as it currently stands it seems. It's a shame Prodrive didn't get on the grid this season and I also hope Super Aguri get to see the season out and beyond. FIA please sort it out soon so we can get some new blood on the grid and bring the sport seriously into the 21st century.

Good on them. I am hopeful that they can overcome this cash crisis that they are currently experiencing and I feel that the best way to attract potential investors to secure the long term future of the team is by racing on the track showing what they can do.

yes iain, but trailing around at the rear will not have investors beating a path to their door. better to sit out a few races, line up some sponsors (with promises of improved performance) and then return

I've got it! The Panoz/Ford F1 team. Ford has a long history of building F1 engines and Panoz has some free time now that champ car is done. (Panoz uses Ford engines in their road cars so there's your link)

ric hard. While I know except it is not the best way with Super Aguri being a back row team on the F1 grid but it is better to be out racing then not being there It is not perfect solution, but it the best solution in the situation. But I would to see them survive. Steve, Panoz are stll involved in ALMS racng with the Esperante Sports Coupe, but why not.

iain, granted, but they are spending money that they havent got, making it more and more unattractive to investors or purchaser. i personally still think a short break is best to allow them to regroup. i think that they bit off more than they could chew, but if a break ensures their future, why not try it

Spyker were also engaged in other series (I know, bad example, look what happened to them), and Panoz used to be involved in CCWS & ALMS so why not F1 & ALMS?

It's such a shame to see them struggle at the back after not being able to develop their car proper, especially since we've seen what they're capable of. They took that crappy old Arrows and turned it into a points challenger in no time at all. It would also be a shame to lose Taku! He's a driver that will race his heart out anytime he's given a proper chance... remember his heroic drive in Canada.

I think F1Tos is right though, the timing is a bit awkward. I really hope they come up with something!

directed at Iain and Rich Ard's little convo...
if i remember correctly back when arrows where going out of business back in 2002, they arrived at the french grand prix and purposely failed to qualify becuase if they didnt turn up at all, the FIA or FOM would have to fine them for breaking contract (signed at the start of the year) i think. if im incorrect, appologies, but if im right, the Super Aguri may well have faced the same fate were they not to race this weekend, which with a hefty fine may leave them in a worse situation still and keeping in mind, theres no 107% rule any more, so i dont think cars can not qualify anymore???.

What if the cars were to suffer a mystery suspension problem that meant the team felt it was unsafe to put the car on track?

rich ard: One of the main reasons if the not the main reason as to why Super Aguri have been in this finanical crisis whih has been overlooked in this discussion so far is that their main title sponsor from last season SS United (an oil company) had defaulted on payments on the contract to be their title sponsor so that factor needs to be considered which I think cost Super Aguri £15million (but I am not sure a season or the total valuation of the contract). But I can see your arguement if they can get investment to carry on operations for at least the foreeeable future then the can develop the car to make it more competitive.

Maybe they can add a PayPal button on their website? ;)

But seriously (!!) maybe fans can become part owners in the team ... like that football team which I can't remember the name of at the moment.

This is one of the few times I will agree with Rich ard. Racing will only put the team into more debt. Don't get me wrong, I would like to see them race, but I don't think its the best choice for the team at the moment.

Oh and Xander Bingo, that sounds way to familiar with that shambolic Mastercard Lola entry of 1997. Don't think that will work.

I think the Panoz suggestion is a good one, but there is no way Ford will take part in F1 again. Cosworth maybe, but not Ford.

Bouncy, you're right about Arrows. And Dave, Cosworth have made some decent F1 engines in the past, I think both Panoz and Cos definitely have what it takes to form a pretty strong team. Of course, they too would be independents so it would also depend on their ability to find proper funding. Add to that the situtation with F1's uncertain future and you're back on square one, I'm afraid.
