Drivers in favour of 2009 package.

Drivers in favour of 2009 package.

Barcelona test leads to positive feedback on proposed aero, tyre changes.

Finally, with the proposed return of slick, some semblance of sense seems to be returning to F1. What the FIA needs to do is properly consider the effect of any changes that they make. The comments of the Ferrari guy about KERS are another area in which the FIA needs to pay attention.

I remember quite a few years back, that the FIA were considering a tyre that was universal that could be used in the wet or dry. (Like normal road car tyres)
But by the sounds of things that idea has been put on the shelf (for now).

at long last, the drivers are realising that what they are paid to do is to race with the equipment provided. just get on with it! ferret, an interesting idea. developement of such a tyre would have fantastic potential for road tyres. isnt this what formula 1 is meant to be about?

Can someone please explain to me why the FIA back in 1998 had introduced grooved tyres? Did all the F1 drivers back then prefer grooved tyres over slick tyres?

Good point Joseph. If F1 teams were given Carte-Blanche they could produce cars which would blow your mind with top speeds unimaginable. Therefore there has always been the scenario where the FIA for safety reasons, are trying to compromise performance whilst at the same time maintaining the top echelon and the manufacturers trying to squeeze every ounce of performance out of the existing rules!.
Grooved tyres were introduced to slow down the cars and has always been unpopular with drivers.Grooved tyres, however have always been used in wet conditions.
The next logical step is to get rid of all of the ugly but efficient aero appendages .

digger, you are right about tyres. however next year, a lot of the appendages will be outlawed and slicks will be allowed. this will INCREASE speeds by up to 3 secs a lap. so presumably next year FIA will reintroduce grooved tyres to slow the cars down again!!!!!!

Now get rid of engine freeze and rev limiting as the safety in the cars has gone leaps and bounds in the last few years. This will also give those talented engine development guys something to do instead of twidling their thumbs for the next 9 yrs as the rules are at present.
