Hamilton 'pleasantly surprised' by pace.

Hamilton 'pleasantly surprised' by pace.

Having been relatively downbeat about his chances ahead of the start of this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton admitted afterwards that he had been encouraged by McLaren-Mercedes' speed in the race.

Lulu - have you had anything to do with changin the rim on Kovy's car?

this is what he sould focus on, less talk, more walk. he needs to keep the bmw away like he did today and hope for ferrari to throw away some points.

seems kubica s already no1 at bmw.

Although he had every right to do it, what I found astounding at the start is the way that Lewis crossed from the left side of the grid to right, directly crossing the path of his teammate and nearly taking both cars out of the race. Heiki managed not to hit Lewis but was stuck in sixth.
I think that Lewis was petrified of Heiki making a neat straight start to evertake Kubica who is a slow starter anyway, and get to the first corner in front of him.
In this game the addage "God protect me from my friends" has a lot of meaning.

Pity, Heiki had such a bad accident. I wish him well and a very quick recovery. Gentlemen drivers are very hard to come by.

Kubica not a slow starter. It's the mapping of his engine that they can't sort out during the starts. No good traction at the start. Last year he did much better. If he managed to stay in front of lulu he'd come in 3rd. Don't dicounts Heidfeld either, he is a very solid driver that is still coming to grips with the life w/o TC.

Ralf...

OMG you're joking right? None of the commentators criticised LH for his start and it looked hard but fair to me.

If you're not determined you'll win nothing. You trying to tell us that in the same situation Schumi wouldn't have done exactly the same?

LS - you are kidding kind, aren't you? Would aligator criticised another one for eating meat? I suggest you consider the pannel of commentators and the country they are from: there wouldn't happen to be bit of a bias in their opinion, or would there?

I used to be a big supporters of Heidfeld - he needs to snap out of the funk he is in.

"With regard to the race, it's good to be back on the podium. After qualifying, we knew it would be a difficult grand prix, so I am actually pleased to be third."

"First of all I am really happy to hear that Heikki is ok,"

What an arrogant prick!

Ralf unregistered you are joking right. Did you not mean that Hamilton did well not to hit Kubica as he did try and close the door on Hamilton all most putting him on the grass. Both legal moves you will find if you start to watch F1.

I agree Ralf, how can his comments be taken as arrogance? What part of what he said wasn't factual?
Lets face it Ricky you don't like the guy and that's the end of it so you'll never be able to make any constructive comments with regards to LH.

Ralf registered, As I said he had every right to do it, can't you read? He had the same right that Kubica had to close the door on him. Don't you know that the guy at the back is always at fault or can't you drive either?
I think that you have just started to watch F1 this season and came into this forum to learn something because up to now you have not posted one single post with any tangible information in it.
Lex, maybe the ITV commentators did not comment on it seeing that it was Lewis, but others on other stations did.
Don't tell me that this is a British forum please, because we are discussing an international sport.

Ralf registered, start getting some F1 knowledge please.

Oh look here's the tiresome unregistered Ralf come to vent his jealousy of LH (what can I say he did wrong today - oh I know, he passed someone at the start - outrageous!!!) followed by spurious and crass insults to anyone who disagrees. How interesting and original.

The reports are all saying that the race was a cake walk for Ferrari, and they'll dominate 2008 but in reality it was uncomfortably close - you never choose to lead by less than one mistake's worth of time (remember Hamilton's wheel nut in Sepang). Nor was it just the yellows that made it close - the last 30 laps there were no yellows and Raikkonen never got more than 7 sec ahead of Kubica. In 2007 the Ferraris were much more dominant than this in Barcelona, and yet McLaren dominated the rest of the season until they self-destructed late on.

While I agree with what you're saying in regard to Massa, I have the feeling that Kimi had plenty in reserve. Following the last stop, he had no more pit stops to worry about, everyone was bottled up behind Massa (and passing really doesn't happen at Barca) and with another race to do on his engine, I'd say he was cruising.

Ferrari are the class of the field no doubt.
If you are lucky enough to go and see their set up at Maranello, like I have been, you'll see that every thing they do is class... the facilities, the equipment and most of all the people they have working there all have great pride in the company and work damn hard for every bit of success.

Now they have another great driver in the shape of Kimmi they're gonna be very hard to beat.

But at the end of the GP Kimmi's engineer came on the pit to car radio and admitted that the race had been 'won' in practice because the opposition where "pretty close to our pace" so I don't think it was as much of a easy cruise for Kimmi as it may have appeared.

Ferrari are a class of the field, but I am a bit surprised that you actually went around the Marranello facilities, unless of course you went around the sports car plant.

Ferrari are very nervous about there F1 factory, not even dedicated family employess get a chance to visit.

I couldn't get in and I have a relative who works there.

You don't happen to work for big Ron and his team by any chance

lol... no pizza man I don't work for McL. I'm lucky enough to be involved in the F1 industry concerning the testing of F1 engines and transmissions so I've worked at almost all the established F1 teams facilities at one time or another.

Lucky you is all I can say.

Ferrari in my opinion are the best, there dedication and commitment to being the best is second to none.I take it than that you have seen the manufacturing of the engines? and them running on the test beds.

Fantastic place.

Not seen the manufacturing just the testing, the design offices and the assembly work shop. You could eat your dinner off the floor of their F1 assembly shop it's amazing.

I couldn't agree with you more of all the facilities I've been to Ferrari stood out for me above all the others.

I've never been to a F1 race but when you hear the engines doing a full race simulation the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end and I guess you get just a small idea of what a spectacle an F1 race is when you're there in person. I can't imagine that sound x 20 it must be fantastic.
