Kimi Raikkonen has absolutely no thoughts of retiring at the end of the 2009 Formula 1 season – that is the view of Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali.
A lot can happen in 18 months. Kimi has always seemed to have a motivation issue, not in terms of being a racer, but just a detachment from the whole F1 circus. I can very easily see him leaving in 09 as one of the great drivers of history, and then getting his jollies in something a bit more frantic like IRL, or snowmobile racing, or even WRC.
Domenicali knows this, and is just trying to protect his negotiation position with Alonso

lulu - will you join me at Ferrari? I will ask Stefano to sign you in. This way we can do our shenanigans all over again.

Agree with you Rosby. Kimi isn't impressed by the bull/**** that comes with F1. He's a man of few words we know, but inside that head is a very analytical mind which has a total contempt for the way in which F1 is run. Given the chance, I think he would gladly tell any F1 top brass to "kiss his ass"
Kimi is happier and more relaxed then he has ever been in F1. Ferrari makes sure that he doesn't have to much public engagements, so it is working well. I dont think Kimi will retire.

My impression of Kimmi from what you read in the press is that he is his own man and does things on his terms and once he's made up his mind that's it. I also hear he has plenty of outside interests outside of F1 so I think when he feels he's had enough and wants to go try something else he'll just walk away, same as Mikka did.
I'm quite persuaded that he will stay at least till the end of 2009. He might want to get a feel of the new, less aerocomplex F1 before making his mind on leaving or not.
maybe thats the way the finns do things, Keke walked away when he'd had enough, Mika did the same and I fully expect Kimi to do the same, retire while at the top of their game. There's been plenty of drivers from different nationalilities who should have followed that philosophy ( past and present ).
F1 needs Kimi. All the other drivers are groomed PR machines. I remember when Kimi was with Mclaren - Brundle caught him during one of his gridwalks and asked him why he missed the opening ceremonies featuring Pele. "I was taking a $h|t", the guy replies, on live TV going out to millions of viewers worldwide.
The guy is talented, fast, a straight shooter, and speaks when he needs to. He's got the talent to win. I hope Ferrari can keep giving him the car he'll need to back up the talent.
I believe if he wins the World Championship this year, that he will retire. He has other interest and has no desire to set all the records. He can get better enjoyment out of other things in life and not put up with F1 crap. He is very professional in his treatment of F1 but I feel he would rather do it his way.
