CLAMP WHAT????? I feel a Brundle technical explanation is required on this one!!!!!
Whatever the fault was, it must never happen again. These manufacturers know that they are supplying a part that will be subject to massive forces and faults should absolutely not occur. Are these wheels tested?
Lets just be extremely grateful that Heikki is back behind the wheel this weekend and lets hope that he comes back fighting for the top spot.

gotta agree with you Demon 1GP, I've spent 30 years in the wheel and tyre game and I don't have a clue as to what they're on about !! I suspect they either mean the method used to clamp!! the wheel centre to the outer rim ( I can see that as a possible problem area...very few wheels,if any, are one piece )or alternatively the tyre bead sealing to the wheel rim ( unlikely.... but it would only cause the tyre to deflate anyway. If it is my first thought I'm surprised that the wheel is lacquered before the build is finished anyway. But excellent news that HK is good to go

"It has been established that, owing to a process fault during manufacture, the outer clamp surface of the wheel was given a clear lacquer coating.

"As a consequence of this fault, the clamp load that attached the wheel was not to specification.

"In running, the consequent loss of load caused the wheel to fret and distort, leading to its eventual failure."

chu chu, Mclaren's wheels are manufactured by the Japanese firm Enkei. Get your facts right & save your prejudice for another day.

did any one watch moto gp lorenzo had a huge high side in friday free practice chiped an ankle bone severe muscle truama and posibly snapped a tendon or ligament. then he raced on sunday and came 4th so all this medical exam for heikki is a bit overboard don't you think he was only taken to hospital as a precaution don't get me wrong i'm glad he didn't hurt himself but this is a big hoo haa about nothing

andy - Heiki had a head injury. Drivers have died from similar injuries after walking away from similar crashes.

I suspect it will take a while for Heiki to be back on pace. It took Kubica some time after his wreck in Canada last year.

not from mild concussion and bruising they haven't and believe me after the cat scan that he would have recieved in hospital they would have known there and then. the only reason he will not be on the pace will be due to a loss of confidence from the crash it's self not the minor injury

DEMON 1GP if you want padded race tracks and accident-proof cars you will not find it on the Formula 1. This is a deadly game and a lot has been done to make it safe and every time the cars are designed to give more, and race factor is stretched and other unforseen problems will come into play. so if F1 is too dangerous for you watch something else and keep your mind at ease.

an ankle injury and an head injury are not the same andy. he could die if he was to have another concussion without being given the all clear.

george point i'm making is this happens all the time on the bikes heads ankles collars whatever they just get on no fannying about tough men check this link

youtube.com/watch?v=mJL9olLRhDQ

carl harris eating another bike with his face broke bones was knocked out therefore concussed broke bones in his foot cut the cast off 2 weeks later to race hard man

also check lorenzo's crash youtube.com/watch?v=eResxp7jALs

and a whole heap of others youtube.com/watch?v=rllGH9x0j9o

you'll notice they have no car around them when they crash to protect their heads ar actually hitting the tarmac and very often knocking them clean out not just mild concussion

point made yet???

andy there is a fine line between tough man and being stupid. I think that the force in an auto accident is considerably greater than a get off on a bike. I doubt that even the heaviest bike accident is greater than 10g's. You are comparing apples and oranges or in this case melons.

the fact is and will always remain that formula one and motorsport in general is a dangerous sport...

drivers of all formulas go into motorsport knowing full well the risks of what they are participating in... no matter how many times you test a component to a formula one car or any vehicle for that matter, there is always a tiny chance that the said component will fail or something will go wrong with it as it did in Heikki's case

to make motorsport absolutely 100% safe, u would hav 2 test every component an infinite amount of times wivout any failure and that is not possible - so any1 slating mclaren ur simply not facing reality!! ... good luck 2 heikki tho this weekend!!

Mark, i think you will find Kubica went on to take 3 top 4 finishes in a row at the next 3 races after his big shunt.

Hardly "taking a while to get back on the pace" !!
