Paddock speculation has hinted that Nelsinho Piquet's days at Renault are looking increasingly numbered, but the bigger surprise is the identity of one of the drivers tipped as a possible replacement for the underperforming Brazilian – Takuma Sato.
Wouldn't be a bad idea, Sato is not as fast as Alonso but have plenty of experience to get some points! Can't be worse than what Piquet is doing at the moment.
There aren't many as fast as Alonso. Sato is always entertaining and I'd love to see him at Renault: he's certainly got the stones to push that sled.

I like Sato and he is quick but I'll believe it when I see it. Besides, isn't Carlos Slim putting up mega-bucks to put Nelsinhno in the car?

As a replacement for piquet they'll want someone fast and consistent, i don't think sato has the latter of those attributes, i also think honda will want him next year and may be reluctant to let him sign for another team.
I'd consider one of the other FI rejects maybe klien or luizzi? I still don't understand why they dropped fisi for piquet in the first place though.
Not that this matters, it's just another "non story" provided to spark a debate.

i hope grosjean gets a chance to race.......he deserves a seat and it will be a relief for the gp2 drivers as this guy was making it boring

Renault is not a régie anymore, for ages... Bring Grosjean on board, he will outperform Piquet and/or Sato instantly ! France needs a F1 driver anyway.

Well the talk of replacing him wont exactly fill him full of convidence will it....i'd like to see him be given the entire season..I know that its results that counts and if the decision has to be made it has to be made....If anybody is to get the seat i'd like to see Davidson given the opportunity, I believe he could do a job for any team...
Yeah... as much as I'd love to see Taku back in F1 ASAP Ant would probably be a wiser choice given Renault's form and his testing & development abilities.

Apart from the fact that Sato is a better racer than Piquet and Grosjean a) French and b) more promising, I would definitely LURVE to see this little arrogant and underperforming Brazilian prick getting the boot so hefty that he would get orbital. At the end of the season he'll be history anyway, so the sooner the better.

i think this is pretty unfair on Piquet but if they did get Sato in the Renault that would be awesome as i believe he is a very good driver and has what it takes to setup a car properly and win races.

Now that would be a surprise for Sato to race for Renault, I would have put my money on him replacing RB at Honda next year. Oh well I like the Good Old Boy racing for any team. gl Sato.
I personaly do not think piquet is a bad prospect, I mean he ran lewis very close in the GP2, and basically has done nothing but test for 18mths (correct me if i,m wrong) infrequently and just needs time to build the race craft back up, I think it would be different if the renault was a race winning car, and I suppose they are going for the points, and there is simply no room for Piquet to learn

So far the only person to match or beat Alonso in his own team - is Lewis Hamilton.
Everybody who follows F1, knew that Alonso would destroy Piquet.
As much as I dislike Alonso for his behaviour, he is a brilliant driver.

Mika you hit the nail on the head. Even if Piquet was doing better he would not be a regular points scorer in that car. Renault need to get it together before they start worrying about their drivers performance.
This is deja-vu from last year, 'pull your finger out Heikki or your history'. Why the hell they would want an underperforming road-block like Sato whose main claim to fame is that he has spoiled dozens of other peoples races is beyond me. Davidson would probably be a far better (but less sponsored) choice.

Flav is remembering last year, when Sato overtook Alonso for a position in a Super Aguri vs McLaren battle......
Matt you are well of the mark, Where was Davidson when Sato was getting into the midfield battle last year and overtaking Alonso at Montreal? nowhere to be found, much like Piquet this year, if the team wants the points and some flair then Sato is a better bet than Davidson or at moment Piquet.
