MI5 rubbishes involvement in Mosley sting.

MI5 has offered assurances to the British Government that it played no part in the undercover operation that led to the News of the World's exposé on disgraced FIA President Max Mosley back in March – despite the wife of one of its agents being revealed as one of the prostitutes involved.

OK, agent 007 was not involved: he was too busy elsewhere!

But who's behind the sex-tape frame-up? This whole underground operation was surely not a blackmail attempt against Max Mosley in exchange for money, because he would have paid and killed the NOTW story.

The motive behind News of the World sting operation was more likely oriented at getting rid of Mosley at the head of the FIA, who's said to be of an autocratic and dictatorial nature.

Someone famous is behind this…

I cannot recall anyone that has said there is blackmail involved - I think everyone agrees this is a 'news' story pure and simple. NOTW have sold a lot of papers on the back of this story and created reams of publicity for themselves at relatively low cost.

It may be that NOTW were tipped off by someone who hates Max - and there are plenty of those - but equally it could be the MI5 connected *****. Or it could just have been idle gossip that alerted the NOTW - not everything is a conspiracy.

"tipped off by someone who hates Max - and there are plenty of those -" that is a masterpiece of understatement
