Pointless Kimi slips down to second.

Pointless Kimi slips down to second.

Reigning world champion Kimi Raikkonen has lost his lead in the 2008 drivers' championship after a disastrous outing around the streets of Monte Carlo.

A good wake up call for Kimi. He'd better bring his A game to every race, otherwise Massa is gonna snatch the WDC from under his nose.

Hmmh

A third rate drive from the current world champion. Not the sort of standard one expects at this level.
More the point it may not be Massa snatching hte WDC, Hamilton has the momentum he needs now.

The door for Kimi is opening and there is a past world champion waiting to walk into it.

It's actually good for Raikkonen that Hamilton won as Massa will most likely be his biggest competition throughout the season.

Let's all be honest here, it was monaco and in the wet. How many random winners have we had at Monete Carlo in wet conditions over the years. This race doesn't necessarily reflect the championship. Kimi will be far stronger at other races and put up a far better defense of his crown (not saying he'll win still fancy Massa).

Does anyone think the anti-Kimi sentiment is a little heavy-handed?

Yes, he had a bad race.
Yes, he lost control under braking and unfortunately hit Sutil.

BUT.. he wasn't trying a rash overtaking move. He hit the brakes abt 50 yards behind Sutil, the car went sideways, and he was a passenger from that moment on.
He did everything he could to recover the car, but unfortunately on a slick track the car slid into Sutil who was at the apex.

It's an unfortunate racing incident, but thats that. EVERY driver made mistakes this race. Alonso made a bonehead move on Heidfeld at the hairpin that could have taken both cars out but no one's complaining.

Not EVERY driver made mistakes. What about Kubica, eh?

Lexington,

YOU brought LH to this thread, I didn't. The article AND the thread are both about KR so you mentioning LH is completely pointless. I can't understand why you would do it, other than to start something up here.

Please make an effort to stay on point here. I am talking about an unfair backlash to an innocent mistake he made. A stupid mistake, but one without malice.
He's a clean driver, and now that dumb sh|t Gascoyne wants to have him suspended. What a joke.

Just because you are a world champion doesn't mean you don't make mistakes. Kimi and Alonso both had serious brain fade moments. Especially Alonso with his dumbass overtaking attempts at the hairpin. Kubica and Webber drove faultless races. I would have enjoyed seeing the Kube win.

Ghost, what Lexington meant was that if Hamilton had made that mistake, there'd be reams and reams of comments about how crap he is.
I agree with you that the incident with Sutil was a racing one and there wasn't anything much he could have done to avoid the accident. However this race was another one of those 'brainfade' races that Kimi has from time to time. I think he's the best driver on the grid, but he does make life difficult for himself!! Just imagine how far ahead he'd be if he was like Schumacher, Senna or Prost and applied himself 110% to the sport instead of just turning up, driving and then disappearing after the race like he's known for.

Kimi Raikkonen is supposed to be World Champion, Sutil a beginner. Kimi only came 9th in one of the fastest cars on the grid because of poor driving. He punted Sutil(in one of the slowest cars on the grid) out of the race from an almost certain 4th place and Sutil had driven an impeccable race worthy of a champion. What did they do to Kimi for leaving his breaking too late at the same place DC was penalised for crashing? NOTHING! Is that because he is world champion! (What???) or because he drives a Ferrari. Sutil would not have got off scott free had the position been reversed. Surely Kimi should suffer a penalty in Canada at least as big as DC suffered.

i am a huge kimi fan but yesterday he was a total dipstick and should be locked in a motorhome for 30 mins with the force india mechanics and a large wrench until he gets out his cheque book and writes a cheque for force india's loss.

Guys, you're all forgetting yourselfs here and tking the first opportunity to take a shot at the world champion. The fact of the matter was that every driver with the exception of two (Kubica and Sutil) had flawed races. You can't just attack Kimi because he drives a Ferarri or because he is World Champ. Be realistic guys c'mon.

kimi (and others) drove like novices yesterday.however, kimi hit a bump on a wet track and basically kept some sort of control, albeit at sutils expense. DC on saturday and on a dry track, hitthe same bump and couldnt control the car (he likes turning right doesnt he) this seems to make kimi a more capable driver. poor sutil, he has been the subject of derision (as has force india) by numerous posters. yesterday he proved all the knockers wrong. he has talent. give him a better car. he could replace piquet, who made the most elementary mistake. hats off to lulu. he hit a barrier but luck was on his side this time. overall monaco should be dropped. it is NOT a racing circuit!

What the hell are you talking about Iain??
Firstly it doesnt matter if he is champion or not. Sutil is not a beginner at racing or driving formula one cars. Kimi didnt brake too late and DC didnt get penalised for crashing. He got penalised for having to change his gearbox.
Get your damn facts rights before you post!!

Either way, Kimi sucked. He just doesn't seem to love what he's doing anymore, I can totally see him retire soon. Although after today I bet Ferrari are more keen on the Kube than on Alonso.
