Heikki our best hope for France, admits McLaren.

Sort Comments:

Heikki best hope in France, admits McLaren.

The McLaren team is apparently resigned to the fact that Lewis Hamilton will not be able to overcome the penalty imposed on him ahead of the French Grand Prix, and hinted that it could put its weight behind team-mate Heikki Kovalainen in an attempt to prevent Ferrari and BMW Sauber from stealing too great a march on the Briton.

Dont think 10 places would stop Lulu getting on or near the podium anyway but I think Heikki is still Macca´s best hope unless he gets one of his famnouse bad lucks where the car will not get off the line lol... Go Heikki and go Robert for that matter...

Would love to see Heikki do it, but he seems to be having another poor year....not quite on the ultimate pace.

DC got on the podium from 13th pos and Vettel got in the points from pit lane last race. Whitmarsh is being a little pesamistic maybe but reality is that Heikki is their best chance for max points reasult next race. If Lewis does beat him with a 10 grid penalty then maybe McLaren and Heikki should really consider what he is doing in the team. Or that Lewis is a real F1 freak of nature to beat him from there. So much could happen till then and it will be interesting. Good luck Heikki!

Oh no, i seem to remember this. Mclaren are favouring a driver!! All the Alonso fans will now get upset and bitch, the Hamilton fans will get upset and bitch, and i will sit here laughing through the weekends depressing race since im a Williams fan.

it is good that they remembered they have another driver (better to say forced to remember).untill now hamilton always qualified with less fuel load than kova, i think this is enough to understand how things are going on mclaren team.

and it is a fact that kova outqualified hamilton time to time with a heavier fuel load but was very unlucky during the some races.

there is no way that hamilton can get pass two bmw driver and his team mate in a normal race at m.course, he need a lot of luck,
but yes he is a very lucky guy indeed.

If Lewis can get himself into a points position at Magny, without excessive reliance on strategy (ie by actually passing peole on track) then that will show he is a real racer. If he can podium, then that would justify the 'next big thing' comments, and reflect the promise he has previosuly shown.

Hope Heikki can make the most of this opportunity though. His season has been too quiet, and frankly he is a better driver than his results so far demonstrate. We're far enough into the season for a track to come to him, so a win or at least splitting the Ferraris on the podium would be a turning point.

PIRELLI I am very surprised with your comments seeing as you are carrying an italian name/nickname. Why are you attacking ferrari they did nothing wrong all they have done is won more races than any other team so far and like last year have done there talking on the track. And by the way they admit to there mistakes this year unlike the spoilt lewis

TIFOSI a very proud member of the Scuderia Ferrari team

Just sounds like Mclaren are building it up so if Lewis does do well it will make him look good

yes, it appears to be time that mclaren realised that they had a second driver of equal calibre, and started supporting him as much as they support lulu. kovi is usually put on a different strategy (the wrong one ) as a back up for when lulu stuffs up!

Lulu, I will attempt to overtake Kimi the same way I tried Nick in Monaco. Hopefully, that will give you enough time to catch up. And will you stop waiving to the crowds during the race? I know you were looking for Brad or Angie but for Pete's sake – during the race focus on DC's buns. They do turn red when you spank them.

The only reason Hamilton is quick in practice or qualifying is because he is low on fuel. Once the race starts Kimi almost always sets the fastest lap, showing where the real speed is. Hence the name "Shamilton." And, the only reason Alonso fans were upset last year is because McLaren (Ron Dennis) actively worked to undermine Alonso in Lewis' favor.

translated from mclaren PR crap:

"yes, we know lewis sucks in races when there is more than 1 car in front of him. we also admit that heikki has always been treated as a 2nd driver, and for now we will put all our effort into him as obviously there is no hope for lewis."

penalty was light...not like he intended it? not like a drunk driver intends to knock down a pedestrian. punish sheer stupidity, red light means stop, there is NOTHING TO IT. i wonder how enraged every1 would be if schumacher did this...it would be thought of as fully intentional, a crime against humanity, and he would be put at the back of the grid at the very least....

i feel kind of sorry for heikki. he's been a match for hamilton for most races and only has 15 points. mostly, due to mclaren **** ups in race strategy. how come they get it right with lewis but everything goes wrong for heikki?

by the way, that penalty is FULLY DESERVED! hamilton should have seen the red light. during his interview, he could not answer. he made a stupid mistake but the fact is, he knew he'd never reach that gap so had to go for kimi or kubica. he went for the peroson he thinks will challenge him for the title, kimi. he expecting to be in the lead, clear of the ferraris and with a rear-gunning teammate, but kubica leads, the ferraris are close and kovy wont play number 2
