F1 returns to Donington as British GP moves.

Sort Comments:

Donington reclaims F1 as British GP moves.

Formula 1 is set to return to Donington Park for the first time since 1993, as it has been officially announced that Silverstone has lost the rights to host the British Grand Prix.

Perhaps Bernie Ecclestone might have used some of his loose change to help Silverstone upgrade rather than expect British taxpayers to impoverish themselves further?

Too right George2.

Quote: "All of that will undoubtedly be needed to bring the circuit's facilities up to F1 standard, with the Leicestershire venue currently lagging a long way behind Silverstone in that regard. The track itself will also require lengthening."

Sadly, this will mean all the character will be lost. "Lengthening" undoubtedly with a prissy chicane or two and/or a bunch of other low or mdeium speed turns. Another classic track lost to "progress" as seen in Bernie's mind. It wasn't enough to ruin the layouts of Silverstone, Spa, Imola, Monza, Hockenheim, .......

all i can say is i hope that the f1 fans love to queue up for hours and also love the smell of horrid portal loos that are overflowing and also have the fun of queuing up for that too.
went to moto gp 2 weeks ago i have seen better facillities at a car boot sale
then to finish the day off a queue for hours to get out.
glad to see we keep f1 here but not sure you fans will be when u get to go there.

Much better circuit than Silverstone, glad to see that there will be a big improvement to the facilities, but I'm a bit nervous about the 'track lengthening'. Hope they just tack a bit on to the Melbourne Loop and leave the core of the track unchanged. Other obvious one I can see is an inwards loop near the Old Hairpin.

Oh deep deep joy!
The end result of this is that one of if not the best Motorcycle circuits in the UK gets mutilated
Just to fulfil the poisoned dwarfs personal vendetta against Silverstone / BRDC

More F+++1+g madness from the world of F1. Bernie should be heading for his Altzheimers test and Max the Perv's words are a disgrace. Donnogton Logistics is a nightmare, 3 hours added to normal Donnington journey when I visited the recent GP.
I guess Bernie could fund a new Motorway branch directly in to the circuit!

But who is the £100 million mystery donor funding Donnington Improvements, what's the odd's on the mystery person being closely related to Bernnie

Isn't it alot narrower than modern GP tracks, same with Brands Hatch? I can't see that much overtaking going on down craner curves.

I dread to think what 'Upgrades' F1 has planned for Donington, Dr Chicane AKA Herman Tilke will take one look at the craner curves and start shoving hairpins in left right and centre

I hate to think what the Donington track layout will be like after it's been made "suitable" for F1. Another great bike circuit is going to be ruined I fear. Theres' lots of things hapenning at the moment which don't look good for motogp: 1. The racing has become less exciting since the switch to 800cc 2. Eurosport losing it's coverage will reduce the fanbase 3. A lot of the great circuits are being changed for the worse. etc etc. It's such a shame because there is now a group of fantastic young riders (CS, DP, JL, AD) to take the fight to Valentino and it should be a great spectacle to look forward to, but it seems to be going wrong....

Donington is far too narrow for F1 racing! Christ knows what this means they'll end up with as a circuit...oh god!

...AND! I hope this means that MotoGP is kept there!!! I really don't like Silverstone, it's flat and featureless and you can't see more than a few hundred yards as a spectator.

Or they head out passed the start finish straight, by passing craners and the old hairpin, maybe through the halls of castle Donny...down the runway at the airport (stopping every 5 laps to let a plane land)...god the more i think about this the worse it gets...obviously i was joking and then i remembered who's involved..nothing would suprise me

I thought the bike riders whinged about Donington due servere lack of grip. Maybe it will be different in an F1 car but that may have to be adressed also. It is good that there will still be a British GP though after all the bullying by Bernie recently. At last sense has prevailed and both Australia and UK GP's are penciled in and seem safe for a few years.

Might be a great bike circuit, but they'll never re- create the magic of the Silverstone track (no magic in the facilities). Neither are good regards access and the only way to make it halfway enjoyable is by bike and even then it a struggle.

As already mentioned BE just has to be the mystery donor doing a bit of insider trading as it were, taking a hit on the price to fund the contract, bear in mind BE is only the front man for FOM/ CVC and probably fed up working commission only.

hi lee
cant see it happening mate motogp made them spend millions in last couple of years to improve facilities bet you cant guess what it was spend on?
ok so im guessing that they really must of needed the upgrade to the media facilities, and the pits also had lots spend on them, but i guess that with them being to small for f1 they will pull that down now...
as you can see they really dont give a toss about you and me the paying idiots

Silverstone never had a chance to keep the race. Bernie is again letting anger and settling scores rule his life. Between him and the pervert F1 is going downhill fast.

Well Stone(er) me. You F1 guys are welcome to it. Despite what some say, the track is not up to much due to the Melbourne Loop which breaks up the racing although the rest of the circuit is not too bad, particularly Craner Curves. Unless the Poison Dwarf funds a new M1 exit you car guys will be in the queue for probably 2 weeks to get out of the circuit. Oh, and make sure your injections are up to scratch before you go to the toilets!
Yes, Silverstone has been, let's say, modified over the years but I will be happy to do a swap.....MotoGP to Silverstone and F1 to Donnington! That is unless a large money sponsor could invest heavily into Brands or Cadwell or Olivers Mount or.........

That has done it!
The FIA will Mess up a good Venue like Donington now with all their improvements planned!
Looks like motogp will go to boring silverstone now!?
What a shame.
If the F1 could not be held at silverstone, what was wrong with Brands Hatch, or Rockingham.
Brands is an exellent place to watch racing!
And the facilities there are great!
